Our Brains

We have been exploring how our brain helps us learn. We have researched the parts of the brain using the iPads and we found out more information about what each part of the brain helps us do.

Here are the cool brains we have created in our whanau time.

Pancake Tuesday

This week in maths, we are doing some measurement. We decided that as it is Pancake Tuesday today, we would make some pancakes.

We had someone reading out the ingredients and the measurements we needed, and then the rest of us were making sure the ingredients were going into the bowl in the correct order.

Our second batch had too much salt in it. We think our measurements were a bit out on this batch.
We learnt to always make sure the measurements are correct and to double check before adding the ingredient to the mixture.

Here is the recipe and directions we used.

Am I a Bucket Filler?

In Coronet, we have been noticing bucket fillers around the school and in our habitat.

A bucket filler is someone who does or says kind and helpful things to a person. This fills up our bucket. We each have an invisible bucket that needs to be filled each day.

There are also some people who can be bucket dippers sometimes. This means they need to be reminded to make good choices and say or do kind and helpful things.

Watch the top video to find out more about being a bucket filler.

Here are some videos of us showing examples of being a bucket filler or a bucket dipper.
I wonder if you can tell the difference?

Reading Books and Bookbag

Some of the children have started reading in small guided groups this week. More and more groups will be added over the next few weeks.

Please ensure your child has their bookbag to take their reader home each night.
(Not everyone will get a new reader everyday.)

Take some time to check your child's bookbag with them each night and share a reading experience together.

Awesome Hand Shakes

We have been working on building strong relationships within our habitat.
We thought creating hand shakes would be a cool way to acknowledge our friends when we are out and about in the school.

Purerehua song

The children have been learning this song and are doing a great job.
Have a go at home with the family!

Week One in Coronet

We had an awesome start to 2017 last week.
We have been taking the time to build relationships and get to know the children and the mentors in our habitat.
Miss Emily and Miss Luchia taught us some art. We were able to show our family through a koru design. They are on the wall in our habitat. Come and take a look!

Mr Nick and Miss Alice have been busy outside in the sun learning new cricket skills.
