Concept: exploring pulley's

The Flying Foxes worked together to attempt to make a pulley system like a chair lift. It had to go right around.

There was some great problem solving going on!

Learning about using Google-Docs

Some of the children have been learning about using Google-Docs to edit and publish their writing. There is so much learning happening and it's so awesome to see the children supporting each other!

Concept - Defining Mechanisms

We spent the first few weeks exploring and building mechanisms. This week was about identifying and defining them which requires a little research and experimenting. Coronet are aiming to be able identify and sort mechanisms by the end of week four. There were more than we thought so we still have quite a bit of work to do!

PE Skills

Our PE focus this term is large ball skills. After getting used to throwing and catching small balls, we are now learning how to pass and move with larger balls. By the end of the term Coronet are aiming to have some small sided games where the students use these skills. To be honest, we were so excited about being in the new hall it was hard to concentrate! 😍

Exploring Mechanisms

Coronet had an awesome afternoon exploring mechanisms in their mentor groups. Over the next few weeks we will learn about the different types such as the inclined plane and levers. By the end of week four we should be able to identify them and sort them into groups.

World Orienteering Day

Big thank you to Miss Forne for setting up our course, we had a blast! Even though the weather was pretty rough that  did not deter Coronet getting out there and making the most of it! Apologises about the photos, the students had the mentors racing around too! 😅

Tinkering Spot in Assembly

Coronet produced some videos about tinkering for the whole school assembly. Macsen, Kasey and Charlotte did a fantastic job of introducing the videos with lots of expression and no script! They practiced lots during tinkering time, see above. 😃

Maths Activities for Term 2

We have a made a few tweaks to our maths sessions. There are regular activities to support number knowledge, applying skills to problems and skills based around our concept. The maths skills for concept this term are based around measuring and building accurately. Our students will definitely need to work on their accuracy for measuring! 😳

Exploring Mechanisms

Coronet spent the afternoon exploring a variety of mechanisms and identifying the moving parts. At this stage, we are not completely sure how they all work but it's certainly got us thinking about how many different types there are and it was a lot of fun playing around with them! 👊

Tinkering Time

We had a fantastic tinkering session this week. Coronet had workshops on fitness, creating Mother's Day cards, exploring cogs and the usual activities of Sumdog and Lego. The smiles say it all! 😃

Blending Maths and Literacy

During our maths and literacy times you will hear about activities based around our concept on movement. Our question this term is 'What is a mechanism?'
During our maths today the students were applying their skills of measuring and reading instructions to build a mechanism. Lots of important reflective thinking going on too! Jake decided he had to start all over again as his measurements were not accurate enough. Impressive! 👊 Please note the Ewok, an excellent buddy for feedback on building mechanisms! 😆

Buddy Reading During Literacy

To encourage fluency our students are being given more opportunities to share reading and are given specific fluency tasks during our phonics workshops.

May the Fourth Be With You!

What an awesome day! Big thanks to everyone who helped create such wonderful costumes, the students looked amazing. We had so much fun, wish we had more time to play with the green screen though! 😃
