Lego Building Challenge - Check out the Leaderboards!

The students have been stepping up to the challenge of following instructions to build a helicopter and a jeep. The students are timed and their time is displayed on a leaderboard. As you can imagine, it is a very popular activity!

Kelvin Heights Sculpture Trail and Lakeland Camp

We had a fantastic day. The trail was fascinating with some incredible sculptures to study and we even got to see some golfers tee off! We got lucky with the weather and it turned it out beautiful, so beautiful that it got very hot! When we reached the sailing club the students created their 'art in the environment' and the standard was extremely high. Every group created an amazing piece of work. When we reached the camp, we were very tired from our walk but that did not stop us from thoroughly enjoying ourselves completing the orienteering course. Once the Year 1 and 2 students left the camp, the Year 3 students enjoyed some free time and were treated with building sculptures of Lego! Very cool. :) A huge thank you to the parents who supported us during the day, it would not have been the wonderful experience without you.

Sculptures Being Displayed

Coronet have been studying sculptures this term. They have been designing and inquiring into the meaning of them. In the last few weeks they have put the finishing touches to their designs and they are currently being displayed in Coronet. The students recently shared their sculptures to the other habitats and explained what they meant. Well worth a visit! :)

Preparing for Camp - Health and Safety

Before we headed out to Kelvin Heights on our Sculpture trail, the students thought carefully about the risks we may face on the trip. The students came up with many different things and choose the three most important ones to be aware of. The three most popular risks to be aware of were; dogs, bikes and staying with the parent ie not getting lost. Some very wise points which were added to our SAP forms! ;)

3D Printing - Cookie Cutters

Miss Emma has been printing our key rings which takes hours, but they are worth the wait. We are now designing cookie cutters and it has been a challenge. We learnt some new features of Tinkercad and joined shapes to create some awesome designs. We had to be precise with our measurements hence our 'capacity' was organising and, in particular, detail because we had to get some small bits spot on. The width, length and depth had to be a certain amount which required a growth mindset and we all got there eventually, which is awesome. Can't wait to see them!

Callling all readers!

This week we are collecting in all our reading books so please have a look at home for any books you may have!
We'll still be taking reading workshops as usual, the only difference is that we won't be sending the books home with your child.
Thanks for your support with this!

Swimming at the Event Center

We had a fantastic week of water safety and learning to improve our swimming techniques.  The mentors were very proud to see the students listening beautifully and having a growth mindset and giving everything a go. We had a minor hiccup on Thursday when we wore our PJ's as we were all very excited and found it a little harder to concentrate. :) However, we were back on track the next day and the instructors were very complimentary about the student's behaviour, which was awesome to hear. Well done Coronet students!

Book Character Day, Personal Reading, Buddy Reading and 'Where's Witheford?'

What a fantastic day!  The Coronet students really stepped up and contributed to a very entertaining time. From 8.30 in the morning the students walked in with huge smiles on their faces and with their pants on the outside of their trousers! :)

It's not very often you take the roll with Cat in the Hat and Gandalf the White!

Our news time was a little different today - Dumbledore, Fantastic Mr Fox and Zak Power had some very interesting news to share!

Our students are really getting the hand of personal reading time. They are beginning to bring in their own books on a regular basis and completing their reading card independently. Having the book character day really emphasised how it is catching their imagination.

Buddy reading has been a huge success in Coronet. The students are beginning to coach other students effectively, with a clear framework they are making a huge difference to others.

You may have heard of 'Where's Wally?' Try 'Where's Witheford!' :)
